Home....?

Yes - we're back home.  Our flight came in around 4:00p yesterday.  Can I just say - that flight from Frankfurt to Chicago absolutely knocked me on my tush.  It was terrible.  Worst flight ever.  The minutes felt like hours.  Note to self: next 8 hour flight, no matter what time of day it is, take a sleep aid.  Ugh.

Can I also say - Makayla and Bob - you absolutely blessed us!  What a sweet, wonderful surprise!!!  Makayla - you're a gem.  Thank you for following this journey...it means so much to know that you care!!

So - yes, we're home.  Yes - it was good to sleep in our own bed last night, and it was good to use our shower this morning, and it's good to be able to drive to get to wherever we need to go.

But we're learning that 'home' is not really a place.  It's not a city, or a house, or a bed.  It's a frame of mind.

And part of us is feeling like we want to go 'home'.

'Home' to our boy.  Home is where the heart is - they say.  And right now, it feels like our home is in Eastern Europe.  In that small apartment.  In the busy metro.  In the quiet halls of the orphanage.

We know that soon, we will go back.  That's great consolation.  And while we're here - we do have so much to do.

In fact, today we are excited to go buy a few outfits, a carseat or two, and other fun things.  Can't wait for that.

But while we're busy preparing this home for our boy, we know that our home on the other side of the world is waiting for us to finish what we started.

And that, my friends, is a beautiful thing.

One Thing I Know For Sure: Home is where it's at, apparently :)  I guess my blog address works, doesn't it?!

  5. Glad your home safe and sound. I can relate with the long flight thing- the last two hours of my flight into Frankfurt were never-ending....and then we got snowed in there for 16 hours :D Anyway, BEYOND excited for the return trip, enjoy your days in the states, and have a GREAT trip back, and an even BETTER time reuniting with your boy! :)

  6. I love this post, Ashley. I think you understand what it means to be homesick for that place! :) It was my home for 6+ weeks, and I still miss it. I would never want to live there permanently, but it has a special place in my heart. It's where our life began with our angel :) Best wishes the next few days until you return! The jet lag is definitely the worst part of it all. Hang in there!
