Land that I love...

Happy 4th of July, everyone!

No - Happy Independence Day.

Independence.

Freedom.

Can't say I think a whole lot about our freedom on the other 364 days of the year.  I'm a little embarrassed to say that, especially since our dear friend, Justin, is in Afghanistan risking his life for MY freedom.  And I don't take the time to stop and think about it, except for the 4th of July.

People say that my generation doesn't understand the privilege that is our freedom, because we've always had our freedom.  We've never had to go without it.  It's always been there.  And yes, I suppose we take it for granted.  I'm certain that we do.

We are spoiled rotten - I'm sure we've all heard the statistics and quotes about how having a car or owning a home makes us richer than 89% of the world's population, or whatever the statistic is now.  I'm not a numbers person.  I'm visual...see it - feel it - understand it.

So why do I say all of this?  Why do I show these sad, almost eerie photos - on this happy 4th of July?  To remind us.  To remind myself to be grateful.  To thank GOD for my freedom.  To thank God for the freedom that Carter will soon experience.

And also to remind myself to pray.  To cry out to God.  Because at any moment, we could find ourselves  on our knees - begging for the drought - war - famine - depression - 'fill in the blank' - to be over.  We just don't know.

So I'm spending today being thankful.

One Thing I Know For Sure: God Bless America - Land that I love...
